About This Site

Top Family Camping covers the gear that makes car camping with a big family work: roomy cabin tents, two-burner camp stoves, folding wagons for hauling it all from the car, camp chairs, and sleeping pads that keep everyone comfortable through the night. Every guide is written from the campsite, not the catalog, with a focus on what holds up to kids, sets up fast, and fits in one vehicle.

Camping Safety

Never run a camp stove, propane heater, lantern or grill inside a tent, camper or closed vehicle. Fuel-burning gear produces carbon monoxide, which has no smell and can be fatal in an enclosed space. Cook outdoors, on a stable, level surface, away from tent walls and overhanging branches, and keep children back from the stove while it is lit and while the grates cool.

Check campground fire restrictions before every trip, keep campfires in established rings, and fully drown them before bed. Pitch tents away from dead trees and low spots that collect water, stake and guy out every line in wind, and take shelter in a hard-sided vehicle or building when thunder is close. Store food and coolers in your vehicle or a bear box where required, supervise children near water and roads, and follow the manufacturer's weight limits for wagons, chairs and sleeping pads. Product information on this site is general guidance, not a substitute for the instructions that come with your gear.
